As recently as last Saturday, we were still in the throes of the nasty Saint Louis summer climate. Then, magically, nice weather arrived – and it has stayed here for five consecutive days. I checked Accuweather and pleased to see predictions of continued nice temperatures.
I’m very happy.
However, my allergies have swung into high gear as my body mistakenly thinks that it should produce many, many histamines in response to – something. I don’t know what the allergy is – leaves that are fixin’ to fall? But I live downtown, a long way from trees, generally speaking. Nonetheless, something is in the air that makes me sneezy, complimented by itchy eyes.
I say, open the windows and pass me the tissues.
Things I like about the fall weather:
1. I turn off the A/C and get a break from the nearly constant racket of the compressor and fan.
2. I take my morning exercise walk and I’m NOT dripping in sweat by the end of the first block.
3. I cook in the oven without making the kitchen unbearably hot. I’m also excited about making soups and chili soon.
4. I enjoy a cup of hot tea without breaking into a sweat.
5. I sleep under blankets and quilts. Soon the comforter will be on the bed again.
6. I enjoy outdoor activities (despite the sneeziness and itchy eyes). Tonight I’m going to an outdoor concert at Old Post Office plaza a few blocks from home. Tomorrow evening is Food Truck Friday (oh joy!) at Tower Grove Park, followed by outdoor movies at the OPO plaza.
7. I have two job interviews scheduled for next week and I know I will not be a sweaty mess when I finish walking to the interview.
8. I’m almost ready to put on long pants. It will be nice to see my jeans again.
9. I open ALL the shades in our place, so there’s massive amounts of daylight without massive amounts of heat.
10. The loft is listed for sale and I think potential buyers will better appreciate the blue, blue sky from my big, big windows without hearing a deafening roar of the air handler on the roof across the street.
